Theater Mode is an application that allows computer users to 'turn off the lights' whenever they want to watch an online video. This application, installed as a Web browser add-on or plug-in may have some legitimate uses. However, PC security analysts categorize Theater Mode as a Potentially Unwanted Program, because Theater Mode has many features typically found in adware and browser hijackers. The company that develops Theater Mode is called Mesa Roha Solutions LLC. Theater Mode is designed to work best on the most popular Web browsers on Windows: Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. Typically, Theater Mode is installed automatically, often by bundling Theater Mode with low quality freeware. As soon as Theater Mode is installed Theater Mode will start displaying various irritating types of advertisements and altering the computer users' online searches.

PC security analysts have numerous motives to consider Theater Mode potentially threatening. Among the most troublesome problems that may be linked to Theater Mode are the ones listed below:
- Theater Mode tracks your online browsing information and monitors your computer, gather data about your system settings such as the browser type, IP address, websites visited, unique identifier number, entered search queries, operating system, websites visited and similar data. This type of information may represent a privacy breach, allowing marketers to deliver targeted advertisements to your computer.
- Theater Mode may also cause the appearance of irritating advertisements on affected Web browsers. Theater Mode advertisements may take various forms, commonly displayed as pop-up advertisements or as irritating banners or sidebars added to websites viewed on the affected Web browser. Theater Mode may replace advertisement content on websites visited by the affected computer user with its own potentially harmful advertisements.
- Theater Mode may be linked to performance issues on affected Web browsers. Theater Mode may cause the affected Web browser to slow down or to connect slowly to the Internet. Theater Mode may also change your Web browser's settings, for example by changing its default homepage or search engine.
